kcalIf you’re missing fries with that burger and shake, don’t despair-try this recipe for tofu fries with a crispy-on-the-outside and moist-on-the-inside texture. Paired with Sugar-Free Ketchup or garlic aioli, its hard to tell these from the real deal. Make sure to remove as much moisture as possible before frying for the crispiest texture.
Ingredients
Oil for frying
1 package (12 ounces) extra-firm tofu sliced into ¼-inch slices
1 tbsp salt
2 tbsp freshly ground black pepper
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Sugar-Free Ketchup for serving
Directions
- In a large pot, heat about 4 inches of oil to 350°F.
- Dry each tofu slice thoroughly between paper towels or a dishcloth.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, cumin, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
- Dredge the tofu fries in the spice mixture and set aside.
- Working in batches, add a few fries at a time to the oil so they do not stick together. Cook each batch for about 4 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oil with a slotted spoon. Set aside on a paper towels to drain.
- Repeat the process with the remaining tofu strips, working in batches as needed.
- Serve with Sugar-Free Ketchup.
